Our aim is to ensure that all the children in our care are happy, confident and enthusiastic learners. We provide an appropriate and balanced academic challenge that enables students to realise their unique potential in a supportive environment.
Junior School students engage in topic-based learning, a cross-curricular approach that integrates different subject matter under an umbrella topic or area of interest. Students have dedicated English and Mathematics lessons and specialist teachers for Mandarin, Physical Education, Art, Design Technology and Music. Where possible, the learning in these subjects is also linked to the current topic.
We offer a stimulating creative curriculum giving students greater autonomy over time, allowing them to take greater responsibility for their learning. Regular assessment tracks student progress to ensure all children achieve to the best of their abilities.
Each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world, and this is something we embrace when a child enters our Junior School, here at DCB.Our Junior School students are provided with a safe, secure and stimulating environment where they are able to thrive, both personally and academically on a daily basis. Our primary role on their Junior School journey is to help students meet their full potential in all areas of learning, irrelevant of cultural/educational background. We achieve this by providing them with a bridge to the world, encouraging them to take positive risks, embracing a pioneering spirit and encompassing the responsibilities of working together. There are three elements that are conducive to establishing such a positive Junior School learning community: the teacher forging strong professional relationships and acting as a guide in moving learning forward; the teacher allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and the teacher promoting high levels of understanding and respect to everything and everyone. These statements run through the heart of our school.
