Mandarin is an essential part of our curriculum here at Dulwich College Beijing. And our Chinese New Year festivities offer a great way for our students to learn more about their host culture and to demonstrate their learning.

On the last day of our weeklong Chinese New Year festivities here at DCB, over 200 Junior School students took to the stage, showcasing a spectacular display of their many talents – a feat in itself considering that the students had less than two weeks to rehearse in the school auditorium.

Shared Lucy Lu, Head of Junior School Chinese who was also in charge of the production, “Audition invites were sent out in November and final decisions were made in December. A lot of coordination was involved between parents and teachers. We needed to collect all their presentations and the details that came with it and coordinated with the different departments to carry out what needed to be done. It was a lot of work from everyone involved!”

Two Year 12 students also volunteered to share the Chinese New Year glee and joined the production, with Michelle W performing a traditional Sword Dance while Lina L captivating audiences with her Modern Dance.
