DCB Class of 2020 Receives Offers from Global Top Universities

Dulwich College Beijing’s 109 students from the Class of 2020 have received over 500 university offers from 16 countries with more expected in the coming weeks. Nearly every student has received multiple offers from top universities, enabling them to choose their true best fit. The vast array of global options and the breadth of choice for each student is particularly impressive this year given the extraordinary circumstances these recent months.

Offers from the world’s most reputable universities could dominate the annual headlines like they usually do with DCB students (Ivy League, Oxbridge, UC Berkeley, LSE, U Chicago, UCL, McGill, U Toronto, HKU, etc.), but the University Counselling Team is particularly proud of the array of options that the graduating students have to choose from. From a prestigious Swiss culinary school to world-renowned art and design programmes, DCB students covered the entirety of the modern university spectrum, with most students having multiple Global Top 30, 50, or 100 institutions to choose from.

Graduate Worldwise

Additionally, there were offers to highly selective programmes such as International Relations at the University of St Andrews, multiple offers of extremely rare scholarships at the University of Glasgow, and multiple offers to read medicine and law and study art or music in top universities across the UK, US, Hong Kong and Europe.

Well done, Class of 2020! We are confident of further acceptances as universities in the UK, US and Canada finish making their offers, and universities in Australia, New Zealand, and several countries in Europe and parts of Asia begin their admissions processes. The future is indeed bright for this cohort, and we’re all going to get through the current situation even stronger.

The University Counselling Team is particularly proud of the breadth and depth of the offers:

Offers from Asian Universities

DCB students continued their success with offers to places as diverse as HKU’s prestigious International Business and Global Management programme, to Hong Kong Poly U’s Hotel and Resort Management, and all varieties in between. A number of Dulwich students have just started the process of applying to universities in Singapore and South Korea, and the University Counselling Team is certain that multiple offers from places like NUS, Nanyang, SMU, Seoul National, Korea University, and Yonsei will ensue. We have a placement at KAIST, which accepts fewer than 40 students educated outside Korea each year, and another one at Renmin University of China’s Global Business programme. There were even offers to stay local at Tsinghua University.

Offers from European Universities

Studying in continental Europe is becoming an increasingly popular option for many DCB students. With a multicultural environment, world-class academics, professional training, and nearly a thousand years of culture and history, it is easy to see why so many students gravitate to the Netherlands, France, and Spain. This year’s cohort boasts offers from places like Leiden University, Sciences Po, University of Groningen, IE Madrid, and the University of Amsterdam. Many of these programmes are so selective that they not only limit the number of places (called numerus fixus or place fixe), but also require additional testing and interviews beyond the initial application process.

DCB Uni offers 2020

Guided by the mantra “Students Come First”, DCB’s experienced University Counselling Team begins the guidance process early in our students’ academic career, helping them uncover their individual aptitudes and talents, then working with them individually to build a well-rounded portfolio that represents their achievements holistically.

“I am delighted for our wonderful Year 13 students! It is the strong partnership between our University Counselling Team, our highly engaged students, committed teachers and very supportive parent community that creates an environment for our students to thrive and receive the strongest possible range of offers for each and every one of them. This is the culmination of years of hard work and commitment by the whole community to support and bring out the very best in our students,” said Simon Herbert, Head of College, Dulwich College Beijing.

We are very pleased with the offers our students have received so far and look forward to more good news in the weeks to come. Our sincere thanks to the University Counselling Team for their care and hard work: Counsellors Mr West, Mr Harmon and Mrs Pankratz, Oxbridge Prep Coordinators Mr Hearl and Mr Ormandy, Counselling Assistant Ms Zhang, and Interns Ms Meng and Mr Evans.
