New Year’s greetings from Head of College Anthony Coles

On behalf of Dulwich College Beijing, I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year!

We all have been through particularly challenging times in 2020, and I would like to acknowledge and thank our students, parents and staff for facing these unexpected challenges with patience, understanding and resilience. During our first term, we could see many positive and exciting moments taking place throughout the term, including our back-to-school events, the start of interschool sports fixtures, the wide array of ECAs, Chinese cultural sessions, Sports Day and other House events, the relaunch of Worldwise Academy, the entertaining Pumpkin and Spider show, parent engagement events, Christmas activities, Senior School Young Musician of the Year….to name a few.

As 2021 is about to unfold, we are again facing unexpected disruptions, but the past year has shown we have the expertise and tools to continue to provide high-quality education to our community. Following the latest spike in COVID-19 cases around Beijing and in Shunyi more specifically, Dulwich College Beijing has worked closely with the local authorities to adapt swiftly to the rapidly changing context and resume learning this week as scheduled.

In line with the latest government’s instructions to the international schools in Shunyi, all Early Years, Junior School and Years 7-8-9 Senior School students have resumed online learning at home from Monday 4 January to Friday 15 January 2021. Senior School students from Year 10 to Year 13 were able to come back on campus this week. Students, teachers and parents are collaborating closely, and everyone is well engaged in this on-going hybrid learning phase.

I am confident that the current situation will soon be stabilised so that all of our students can resume their learning on the campus. I am proud to be associated with the DCB community and the cooperation our community members are showing through these challenging times.
