DCB student prefects 2025

Last December, the handover assembly – a symbolic event where the outgoing Year 13 Prefects graciously passed the torch to our incoming Year 12 Prefects – took place at the Wodehouse Theatre, marking the official transition to the Senior School's new Prefects, a moment of unity and shared responsibility for our entire school community.

This year, the Senior School Leadership Team has made slight changes to our pillars, demonstrating our school's adaptability to the constantly changing environment of Dulwich College Beijing. With these new pillars and positions, we are confident in our ability to evolve and meet the needs of our community.

  • Local to Global: Pathways to Change
  • Service to Others: Community in Action
  • Curriculum and Learning: Knowledge through Innovation
  • Enrichment: Beyond the classroom
Student leadership roadmap

The Head Prefects put together the collective vision spanning all pillars:

"Diverse Journeys, United Support."

As Head Prefect Mike C explained, "Diverse Journeys" is the realisation that the student body is composed of unique, passionate individuals. Everyone's journey is different. Thus, the prefect team must collaborate to provide specific support to foster a supportive environment where we feel empowered to be proactive. The prefects' journeys have prepared them to share their expertise, reinforcing the backbone of the student body and addressing our diverse needs.

Now, let's hear from our new 2025 Prefect team!

Pathways to Change

Change is a journey, and everyone's pathway to change looks different. The Pathways to Change pillar brings together the most passionate changemakers in the DCB community to pioneer and provide support for proactive, meaningful change.

Pathways to Change Head Prefect and Soong House Prefect: Mike C

"The Prefect and Head Prefect selection process have been the most transformative experience I have had in DCB. The SSLT (Senior School Leadership Team), especially Ms Tomaszun, pushed me to achieve my best. The selection process included many things that pushed me out of my comfort zone, such as a speech and long interviews. It encouraged me to achieve things I wasn't even aware was in my realm of capabilities. Most of all, the selection process focused on finding the best fit for each prefect role. I received a prefect role that I hadn't applied for. It was daunting at first, but I realised that the best fit also meant the role that would provide the most growth for the student. Ultimately, the selection process was only the start of everything. I look forward to breaking out of my comfort zone and fulfilling my roles to the best of my ability." - Mike C

Alumni, Careers and University Prefect: Hong Kiat T

"Taking risks, even when uncomfortable, can lead to rewarding results. Being chosen as the new Alumni, Careers, and University Prefect has allowed me to turn my ideas into action, such as creating a website for upcoming university visits and key deadlines. I'm excited to continue impacting with new initiatives." - Hong Kiat T

Sustainability & Global Citizenship (GC) Prefects: Aletheia C, Aurelie L, and Ruby Z

"Being a prefect gives us the platform to empower and support students to act towards what they are truly passionate about. In this role, I hope to be able to involve the school community in our projects and show them that GC is not something far away but something that affects and can be closely linked to our everyday lives. I am so thankful for this opportunity and excited for the year ahead, making positive changes to the lives of others and being a role model to the next generation of globally minded leaders from DCB!" - Aletheia C

"Global citizenship is a fundamental part of our school, and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to be one of the prefects for this portfolio. Although the application process was quite demanding, I'm grateful for all the support from last year's prefect team and incredibly excited about the year ahead. Our vision - acting locally, thinking globally, engaging for change - is about starting with our immediate surroundings while maintaining a broader perspective on global issues and encouraging student participation. We already have many exciting project ideas and can't wait to start! - Aurelie L

"Being selected as a prefect, especially in a portfolio that aligns with my interests, is incredibly exciting and inspiring. I'm looking forward to the year ahead and eager to make a positive impact and contribute meaningful changes to my community." - Ruby Z.

Active Citizenship Prefects: Max Z, Robert K, Sean P

"I could understand and get crucial values of being a Prefect from previous Prefects. I hope we continue working hard and leading students with our collective vision this year." - Robert K.

Worldwise Prefect: Julia J

"As the prefect of a new portfolio, I will be a student member working closely with the school's administrative Department of Public Affairs! Together, through organising, pitching, and connecting with external organisations, we aim to bridge work field professionals from China and globally with our students. Through Worldwise Academy, or WWA (our College initiative), my work will also reinforce networks between parents, students, teachers, and other community members to grow from the exchange of collective resources.

While WWA poses unlimited opportunities for experimentation and self-growth, the trace (I hope!) I will leave it simple: to broaden WWA's reach as a tool for students to advocate meaningful causes." - Julia J.

Community in Action

The pillar Community in Action focuses on how we, as Dulwich College Beijing members, can provide meaningful support within the DCB community, turning solitary journeys into shared adventures.

Community in Action Head Prefect and Health & Wellbeing Prefect: Bella Y

"Taking on this role has been both a humbling and exciting journey. Stepping into such impactful positions and inheriting a legacy built by incredible leaders before me has presented a new challenge. However, I am committed to our vision of "Diverse Journeys, United Support." I strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where each individual's unique path and wellbeing are valued." - Bella Y

College Links Prefects: Dahee K and Wan Kiu C

"The prefect selection process has allowed me to reflect on how people's efforts being put in activities within DCB have played a significant role in my personal growth and broad experiences. It has encouraged me to become more involved in a school community, providing others with an opportunity to develop themselves." - Dahee K.

Student Support & Communication Prefects: Hyunjae K and Sean S

"I was honoured and excited to be the new Student Support and Communications prefect. I am determined to transform our student's academic and personal journey into an even better trajectory, offering our insights, experiences, and advice. I look forward to what this role holds for me in the future." - Hyunjae K.

Health & Wellbeing Prefects: Bella Y, Eleanor D, Noah K

"I'm honoured to be one of the Health & Wellbeing prefects and hope to live up to the expectations of the previous prefects by making wellbeing more accessible!" - Eleanor D.

"Thank you Ms Tomaszun and Mr Rossall, for trusting me to take the Wellbeing portfolio. It was such a new experience being in a meeting that had a large effect on the school and presenting in front of the whole school. I am very excited to plan projects that could positively affect everyone's wellbeing in our school.""- Noah K.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Prefect: Yifei L

"In the prefect interviews, it is important to research what questions you can expect. Don't try to memorise your responses - instead, try to map out the key points you want to make or key events that shaped you as a person and remember those. Above all, relax!" - Yifei L.

Knowledge through Innovation

The Knowledge through Innovation pillar is about enhancing the learning experience to make the eight hours every day at school not just bearable but enjoyable and for gaining knowledge not just through standard textbooks but through activities and experiences, allowing students to create memories to look back on along the way.

Knowledge through Innovation Head Prefect and Wodehouse House Prefect: Catherine W

"Diverse Journeys, United Support." Dulwich College Beijing is a place where every student's journey is unique. Having spent almost 12 years here, I was thrilled the moment I had the opportunity to sign up for a prefect role. Though the process was undoubtedly challenging and required reflection, I am incredibly thankful for the chance to serve our school community in this way.

As prefects, we are privileged to guide and support these diverse journeys, striving to ensure that each student feels the light of our community. We all, as students, have different passions, interests, and experiences. Some are just beginning to find their footing, some are branching out to new directions, and some are discovering the strength to embrace who they truly are. Within this diversity, we find the support we need to thrive. Support that transcends what we do or what we enjoy. I feel immensely grateful to be a part of this journey, surrounded by many incredible individuals who make our community stronger daily." - Catherine W.

Approaches to Learning (ATL) Prefect: Vivianna K

"I thought I couldn't get my desired role, but it worked! Therefore, believe in yourself and try whatever comes into your mind.

We would like to focus on three main projects this year:

The school Resource Hub, where all the resources needed for inside or outside school learning are gathered. Inside the hub, there will also be some collaborative space where people can talk among themselves or collaboratively make notes on what they have learned and build their knowledge through conversations with peers.

If the peer conversation cannot solve a problem, other prefect portfolios and I would also like to initiate a mentoring system where upper-year group students help others who need help with their studies.

To support those who prefer to study by themselves, we plan to do the ATL calendar, a flexible tool that empowers students to take control of their learning and earn small rewards every time they complete a daily mission. " -Vivianna Kim.

Art Prefect: Dionne Van H

"I would like to thank the previous prefects for their guidance and support. Balancing the responsibilities of organising projects and planning effectively alongside the demands of the IB programme will be a challenge. Still, it is one I'm excited to take on!" - Dionne Van H.

STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, Medicine) Prefects: Allison W and Arshia J

"We plan to create a guide for students, specifically Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students looking to work under professors in the field of interest, possibly tips on applying to summer camps and how to answer those interview-type questions. I also look forward to supporting all the diverse STEAMM CCAs (co-curricular activities) Dulwich College Beijing offers, as STEAMM is a fascinating but intricate field. Any support for them is fantastic." -Allison W.

"I am incredibly grateful and excited to be selected for the role of STEAMM Prefect. This opportunity means a lot to me, and I look forward to creating an environment that will encourage students of all backgrounds to pursue their interests in STEAMM. I look forward to building on their efforts and bringing new initiatives to make this a year of exciting opportunities and growth for everyone." - Arshia J.

Media & Marketing Prefects: Ariel W, Huan-Da C, and Portia L

"I look forward to the great year ahead, fostering a united community and watching lingering initiatives materialise into tangible outcomes." - Ariel W.

"I took the shot." - Huan-Da C.

"The journey to becoming Media Prefect has been a long but truly worth-waiting process. I am eager to bring fresh initiatives to enhance the student experience. I can't wait to start making a positive impact and creating opportunities for everyone to engage and thrive." - Portia L.

Beyond the Classroom

Now, of course, passions and interests beyond the classroom vary; the goal or vision of the Beyond the Classroom pillar is to support all interests and passions through more events, initiatives and excitement.

Beyond The Classroom Head Prefect and Active Citizenship Prefect: Max Z

"During the prefect selection process, I initially felt anxious and worried about my interviews, what to put on my CV, my teacher references, etc. However, asking the former prefects about their experiences helped my confidence. I would say the key was being confident, curious, and proactive. The selection process taught me valuable skills like interviewing, public speaking, writing professionally, etcetera." - Max Z.

HOUSE Prefects: Catherine W, David Z, Mike C, Isobel C and Jennifer Z

"I'm honoured to have been appointed as Owens House Prefect, a role I embrace with immense gratitude and pride. Owens is not merely a House—it is a family bound by shared values and an unshakable sense of unity. Each member holds a special place in my heart, and together, we will strive, we will grow, and we will achieve. Our strength lies in our togetherness, and with that spirit, we will rise to every challenge and celebrate every victory as one." - David Z.

"The handover experience was magical, and I gained lots of guidance. I learnt the importance of responsibility and perseverance from the other prefects. The House system is like the heart of the DCB community, its pulse vibrating vividly in everyone. With determination and dedication, I hope to instil passion within members of Alleyn! - Isobel C

"Being a House Prefect means becoming part of a large community that can participate and lead in many diverse and fun events throughout the year. As someone immensely passionate about art and theatre, I find it a joy and an honour to put my passion into real projects for everyone to see and earn the rewards as a team. These experiences made me realise the immense effort and dedication required from the team members and leaders to succeed. In the future, I want to use the knowledge I gained as a House Prefect to create valuable experiences for members in my house." - Jennifer Z

Performing Arts Prefects: Angela C and Evan Y

"As passionate musicians, we are excited to serve as Performing Arts prefects and continue the tradition of using the arts to unite and enrich the DCB community. This role offers an opportunity to embrace creativity, lead, and inspire, and we are ready to face any challenges ahead. By sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge, we aim to elevate the performing arts experience and create a lasting impact within the school." -Angela C.

"It is wonderful for us to be the Performing Arts prefect as both are passionate about music. Performing Arts is at the core of bringing the community together and enriching student lives at DCB. I mentioned in my interview that I hope to become a prefect whose contributions will be remembered by the school. I look forward to an impactful year where performing arts will continue to thrive at DCB!" - Evan Y.

MUN (Model United Nations) / Debating Prefect: Rizzy P

Sports Prefects: Bella O, Jacob C, Taylor L

I'm so grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to work alongside my peers to make a meaningful impact in the school community." - Bella O

"We will strive for further sporting excellence in DCB." - Jacob C

Showing our Gratitude

We would also like to thank the Senior School Leadership team for allowing us to become prefects. Extended gratitude goes to Ms Tomaszun and Mr Rossall, who have guided us on this journey since the start of Year 12 on our IB Ignition trip, through the interview process and where we are now. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive group of teachers and staff as we tackle our academic Journey.

What's ahead for us?

Taking inspiration from our vision: "Diverse Journeys, United Support", we will confidently march through the new calendar year 2025. Our vision should not be limited to just us, the prefects, but also the extended Dulwich College Beijing community.

Remember, this is just the beginning. The most important aspect of our mission is students. They are at the heart of all our projects, and we are dedicated to serving their needs and aspirations
