Gavin Hornbuckle

Head of University and Careers Counselling

Gavin Hornbuckle is an experienced educator and college counsellor from the United States. He taught History and Social Studies for five years in Ecuador, Mexico, and the US before transitioning to college counselling in 2010. Gavin has worked as a college counsellor in Singapore, Korea, Brazil, and most recently Hong Kong. He has also recruited American university students to study abroad and directed study abroad programs in Cuba and Mexico. Additionally, Gavin spent a summer as a travel writer in Honduras and El Salvador.  

He is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and French and is currently learning Putonghua. Gavin is excited to explore Beijing and China and immerse himself in the culture. When he's not working, he enjoys hiking, cycling, travelling, and trying new restaurants.  

Gavin holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education (Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development) from the University of Minnesota, an Ed.M. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and a Bachelor of Science in History with minors in Political Science and Education from Iowa State University. He is an active member of the International Association of College Admissions Counselors and the Council of International Schools.
