Mark Elshout

Director of Performing Arts, Head of Music

Mark Elshout is from a city near Melbourne, Australia. He holds a Masters in Music Studies from Melbourne University, a Bachelor of Education from Deakin University, a Bachelor of Music Performance from Melbourne University and an Associate Diploma of Orchestral Trumpet from the Australian Music Education Board. He is a Workshop Leader, Examiner and Program Leader for the International Baccalaureate. He has been an educator for 26 years, including 5 years at another international school in Beijing as the Head of Performing Arts and as the Head of Bands at an international school in Japan. Prior to this, he worked at Geelong Grammar School in Australia, a boarding school in the English Private school tradition, which has many notable alumni including King Charles. In his spare time, he enjoys playing jazz and rock with bands around Beijing's nightspots. He is also an enthusiastic photographer, movie maker and SCUBA diver.
