Congratulations Dulwich College Beijing Class of 2024!
Congratulations Class of 2024!
On Monday 20 May, our Class of 2024 took their final stroll as students around the campus that has been their second home for many years. It was a day to commemorate their hard-earned diplomas and the many challenges they’ve overcome. It was also a day of tender exchanges with friends and teachers, who helped shape and strengthen them to into the remarkable individuals they are today.
The celebrations continued in the Wodehouse Theatre, where the formal Graduation Ceremony took place and our graduates were serenaded with performances.
In her opening address, Clare Anderson-Au, our Head of Senior School, gave our graduating students a glimpse of the rite of passage that many of them will soon go through: living independently. In her poignant message to the Class of 2024, she reminded them to always strive for their goals, no matter how challenging they are. “Remember what you value, remember what is important to you. Remember where home is, and never ever settle for ‘okay’. Celebrate your successes, as they will be uniquely yours to celebrate, and yours alone. Remember that you are unique – singular, uncommon, and one-of-a-kind.”
Following this, Anthony Coles, our Head of College, added that this celebration is not just an accomplishment by the students but by their parents and by their teachers, past and present, as well. “I would also like to take a moment to thank our fantastic faculty and staff, past and present, who have dedicated themselves to our graduates, education and their growth. To the parents whose unwavering support has been instrumental in the success of this class, let’s not forget your influence. It takes a real partnership to bring the best out of our students.”
Zoe Barrett, one of our two alumni speakers, humorously noted how events like this are an accomplishment for teachers, too, and that they, too, should have their own graduation ceremonies. She spoke about the exciting yet daunting life after graduation and highlighted the importance of growth through tough times. "Don’t be afraid to take risks and do things your own way. Don’t feel like you have to follow the crowd or live up to other people’s dreams and expectations. This is your journey and your chance to go out and try new things.”
“Because that’s what we do, right? We’re Dulwich – we're lifelong learners.”
Eujean Lee, our second alumna to share her thoughts, added that if she were asked to go through Dulwich all over again, her answer would be a resounding yes. “Once an Alleynian, always an Alleynian,” she said. “Stay connected and Live Worldwise. Stay curious. Go explore the world; make the world yours. Stay adventurous, and keep trying and challenging new activities, new food, and new cultures.”
The event was then capped off by a reception at the lake in Legend Garden.
As Mr Coles said, “Don’t be afraid to make your own paths. Continue to Live Worldwise and be a trailblazer, a champion of change because you are all capable of making a positive impact on individuals, society and the planet.”
Join us in congratulating the Class of 2024 as they enter the next stage of their lives.
