Student Leadership

At DCB, we recognise the importance of nurturing young people, instilling our core values, and giving them opportunities to grow beyond academics. With around 400 leadership roles in Senior School, you’ll find students leading assemblies, planning events, and sharing ideas that shape school life. Others might be rehearsing for a play, competing on the sports field, or collaborating on a design project after class. Some are discovering new interests; others are mastering ones they already love. This enrichment goes hand in hand with their studies and maintaining a positive work life balance.

Through these experiences, in classrooms, studios, and beyond, students grow in confidence, curiosity, and connection. They learn to balance challenge with creativity, teamwork with independence, and ambition with wellbeing, and in finding their voice and passion have the courage to become student leaders. Here at DCB, students discover that true leadership begins with being yourself.

Sports

At DCB, sport plays a vital role in helping students grow – building not only physical strength but also confidence, teamwork, and resilience.

From DUCKS to Secondary School, our sports programme encourages every child to enjoy being active, to celebrate effort and perseverance, and to handle both victory and defeat with grace.

Our world-class facilities – including swimming pools, football and rugby pitches, a cricket ground, and all-weather indoor spaces – give students every opportunity to stay active and discover a lifelong love of sport.

Through regular participation and competition, students develop leadership, discipline, and a healthy balance that will benefit them far beyond their school years.

The Performing Arts are a vital part of life at Dulwich College Beijing, offering Senior School students the chance to study music, drama, and film through IGCSE and IB programmes while performing, creating, and building confidence beyond the classroom. With exceptional facilities – including two theatres, professional rehearsal spaces, and a green-screen film studio – students learn to collaborate, express themselves, and experience the joy of performance.

Partnerships enrich the programme, with students taking part in network-wide events like the Worldwise Shakespeare Festival alongside the Royal Shakespeare Company, and working with visiting conductors, directors, and producers. These opportunities provide invaluable industry insight and inspire creativity on a global stage.

Co-Curricular Activities

Students across the College are strongly encouraged to follow their passions. This extends also into taking ownership of their learning, and seizing the opportunity to lead others in an area they are interested in.

As such, our students have numerous opportunities to volunteer and lead community-based projects they care strongly about.

Student Leadership

Students have many opportunities to take on leadership roles across the Senior School.

One example is the Executive Student Council (StuCo), a dynamic team that organises major events such as movie nights, themed days, and the DCB formal, while advocating for student voices and positive change.

Other key leadership roles include Year 12 Prefects, who oversee a number of portfolios within key pillars under the guidance of the Head Students.

In addition, students can serve as House Leaders, CCA Leaders, and representatives in various academic and co-curricular areas – each helping to strengthen school spirit, lead initiatives, and foster community across the College.

House System

In Senior School, the House System gives every student a sense of belonging and purpose. Students take part in friendly competitions, service projects, and leadership opportunities that build teamwork, confidence, and school spirit. Older students mentor younger ones, creating a strong community built on respect and support. Through their House, each student learns to lead, collaborate, and contribute – skills that stay with them far beyond their time at DCB.

Global Citizenship

In the Senior School, students are empowered to understand the world and make a difference within it. Through lessons, projects, and student-led initiatives, they explore global issues, sustainability, and social responsibility in meaningful, hands-on ways.

Many of our sustainability and service projects are designed and led by students, giving them ownership of their learning and the chance to see real impact. These experiences build empathy, leadership, and problem-solving skills that prepare them to take informed, responsible action in their communities and beyond.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Dulwich College Beijing, we believe that deep, lasting understanding of any knowledge extends beyond the in-classroom teaching. To truly engage with their learning, our students are encouraged to deepen their understanding by pursuing curiosity-driven, hands-on, and relevant experiences that spark exploration beyond the classroom.

Multi-Language Programme

At Dulwich College Beijing, language learning is at the heart of our mission to Live Worldwise and foster cross-cultural understanding.

While English is our language of instruction, we provide dedicated support for students who need it.

All high school students study Mandarin, with classes tailored from complete beginners to native-level speakers.

From Year 7, students also begin an intensive European Languages programme, giving them the foundation to pursue a European language as part of the IB.

Our vibrant multilingual community helps students connect across cultures, explore global perspectives, and reach their full potential — in any language.

Facilities

Our facilities were built with intention and with our students in mind and with input from our educators and community. Several locations around the Senior School community allow students to commune, work together or just relax in between classes. The College also provides numerous specialist classrooms where students can pursue their passion projects with age-appropriate, world-class equipment and facilities.
